Charles Edwin Casselberry, son of Thomas E and Ella Casselberry, was born near Butler, Montgomery Co., IL on Dec 26 1873. He came with his parents to Nance County NE in 1887 and two years later to Polk County. He attended school in Shelby and was a member of Shelby High School's first graduating class. He later attended Lincoln Business College, and with his father, owned and operated a hardware store in Shelby for a time. He was united in marriage to Mary L West Nov. 4, 1897. In 1901 they moved to the farm southeast of Shelby, where they lived until they retired to Shelby in 1929, where they continued to make their home. To this union were born five children; Thomas E of Spokane, Wash., Fern(Mrs. John Scott) of Shelby, Lynn W of Blackwell, Okla., Mildred (Mrs. Donald Sneddon) of Des Moines, Iowa, and a son, Kenneth L who passed away in infancy. He united with the Shelby Methodist Church in 1893 and was a faithful member until his death, serving in various capacities, and for many years, until his illness, was Church Treasurer. He was always interested in community affairs and for 33 years was Treasurer of Polk-Butler Insurance Co., retiring from this office only last January. All who knew him respected his honesty and integrity. His health had been failing for some time, and in February, he entered the hospital. In spite of all that could be done, and great determination to recover, he passed peacefully away Tuesday Morning, August 27, 1957. A kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is mourned by his wife, four children, seven grand-children and 11 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Nellie Lisco, a niece and a nephew.

Charles Casselberry took his first lesson on driving a Model "T" Ford on Tuesday morning of this week. Charley says that this is positively the first time that he ever tried to drive a Model "T" and so far it is the last time. He took the car from the alley back of the Olson Hardware Store and drove it around to the front. But there was one thing Charley had not been fully instructed in and that was how to stop a car of that model without running it against a telephone pole, therefore, no pole being convenient, and rather than run into the plate glass front of the store he steered for the iron post of the electrolier and the car stopped quite suddenly. No one was injured and only a few cents of damage was done, but Charley says he will give no more demonstrations in the street and the next lesson will be taken in some large pasture, Parents: Thomas Evans CASSELBERRY and Sarah Elvira GRUBBS.

Lynn William Casselberry, son of Charles and Mary Casselberry, was born June 10, 19047 in Shelby Nebraska. He was married to Ethel marie Whitney on July 28, 1925 at Lincoln Nebraska and to this union were born a daughter, Marilyn of the home, Blackwell, Okla., and a son, Lynn W., a Naval Officer stationed in San Diego. After graduating from Shelby High Scholl, he taught school in this vicinity for a short time. In the following years he was engaged primarily in the automobile business in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. His home for the last 13 years was in Blackwell, Okla. Since March 17, 1962 he owned and successfully operated a restaurant in that city. His health has been failing for some time and he passed away on March 13, 1963. Lynn was a quiet, hard working man, and was loved and respected by his family, friends and all the many people who knew whim. He was a member of the First methodist Church of Blackwell. He is mourned by his wife, two children, eight grandchildren, his mother Mary Casselberry, two sisters, Mrs. Fern Scott and Mrs. Mildred Sneddon, a brother Thomas E., two nieces and three nephews.
